In January, 2005, Ven.
Zechariah Malual Kuol began his studies at St. Paul's
Limuru, Kenya in pursuit of his diploma in Bible Studies.
In November 2005, he will complete his first of a three
year program, which was funded by churches and individuals
within the Diocese of Virginia. The cost is $4,400.00
per year which covers tuition and housing. Funding is
needed for his second and third year.
Ven. Zechariah has devoted
his life to Christian teaching. In 1985 at the age of
21, he began preaching the Gospel under a mango tree in
the village of Karic. Many people thought he had opened
a school and flocked to hear his lessons. As a result,
thousands accepted Christ, including his own mother and
brothers. The bishop came to his church and baptized 917
Christians in one day.
His educational background
includes a diploma of Theology from St. Andrew's College
in Kenya. Through his continued education, he will be
better equipped to return to his diocese and train other
pastors. Because of the lack of educational opportunities
in southern Sudan, pastors are ordained, and then receive
an education if a scholarship is provided. Ven. Zechariah,
with his gift for teaching and education under his belt,
will be an excellent instructor for fellow clergy members.
The Diocese of Rumbek
is lead by Bishop Alphayo Manyang Kuctiel and two assistant
bishops and is the largest diocese of twenty-four in southern
Sudan. There are 273 churches in Rumbek, 156 clergy members,
eleven of whom are women. Only 7 of the clergy have received
an education (including the 3 bishops). When we support
the Diocese of Rumbek by educating one committed individual,
we ultimately educate many. Ven. Zechariah is married
to Martha Akujur, a deacon in the Diocese of Rumbek. They
have been blessed with four children.
All funding goes through the
